Island Jewels Clutch - Island Animals
Hatching September, 2005
Pern date 8.13.04.17
The leaves are elongated and thin ... why, it would take all day to count the many layers of them on the egg! On one side, the leaves come to a point and then curve around the rest of the shell. Overall, it looks like you could end up sticking your hand in arm deep into a dense amount of foliage. It’s quite an illusion actually and it will draw more than its fair share of admirers as they try to see what's hidden within the dense growth.
Green Loriseth - Bralent
Loriseth is the color of a dense rain forest. Mainly she’s dark with lighter spots at random intervals all over her body. She has a funny looking mark on her neck that looks like a hand with claws on it. It’s a very light green and it will grow larger as she ages until it looks suspiciously like a dragon’s fore-claws as if Foreth had decided to leave a lasting mark on her daughter.
Based on Banana Tree Egg, Slow Loris draggie
I'd Rather Be Outside Egg
At the same time, both seriousness and whimsy... what will the dragon inside an egg such as this be like?
Bronze Lepturuth - S'tinas
More of a copper than a bronze, really, Lepturuth's hide is rather striking, especially when the sunlight catches it just right. His tail is rather long for his size - somewhat above average - and the two 'tines' of the fork at the end are even longer, giving him the appearance of having had his tail grabbed by an unseen hand and stretched out as he tried to run away. Not that Lepturuth likes to walk; even as a hatchling, his feet are quite small, causing an almost mincing gait on land. If he were to 'grow into' his feet, he'd only be the size of a large blue!
Based on Bermuda Shorts Egg / Bermuda Longtail draggie
Shadowed Mysteries Egg
It’s easy to look at an egg and want to know if there is some symbolism involved with the outer shell and the inner creature. Surely people tend to pit outer color with inner and sometimes they’re right but not always. For this egg a nice brown dragon would be a match and yet there could be a little blue, or a green, maybe a bronze. There just isn’t any telling and so trying to depict what the shell symbolizes in its senseless design seems the way to go.
Is this egg a picture of an almost toothless tunnelsnake? Or is that black shape an exotic sea fish shadow swimming past a sea cave? No one has answers to these questions, no one ~really~ wants answers because it’s just fun to guess and imagine all the various possibilities of this Shadowed Mystery Egg.
Bronze Lirogath - E'lar
One of the largest bronzes among bronze hatchlings Pern wide, Lirogath is simply amazing. For all his size he is one of the most loveable, gentlest and intelligent hatchlings as well. He’s very sociable where others might be more reserved. That’s not to say he doesn’t have a haughty side to him but it won’t show for a long while, turns and turns as a matter of fact.
Based on Coconut Egg, Gorilla Draggie
This egg beckons to any and all that might have sampled a bit of chocolate at the confectioner’s stall this past Gather. Surely if you could get close enough one of those drops would slip off the shell and into your hand. The illusion is that perfect until you get a good look at that opposite side of the egg. What is that marring the perfection of this chocolate picture? Is it muddy water? Perhaps a landslide? Whatever it is, it doesn’t belong there and many will choose to ignore that gross abnormality on an otherwise perfectly yummy egg.
Green Ayeth - Li'an
This little green is adorable. A dark forest green hide lies beneath a very light green mantle, mingling the two colors until it almost seems as if the darker green is an undercoating and the light green a veil. She’s a lovely unique color and that’s not all that attracts the eye to her. She has eyes that somehow seem more pronounced than others, and a long narrow, almost pointy muzzle. Her head knobs are wide and spread further apart than normal, giving her that cute look so many find enchanting. Ayeth’s tail is long and she loves to move it whenever she’s not sleeping.
Based on Coffee Bean Egg, Aye-Aye Draggie
Juice Berries Egg
Unfortunately, the shell is just as hard as all the others and the picture of these life-like succulent berries plastered against the surface is only a hollow tease, meant to tempt your taste buds but never fulfill.
Green Monselth - Tu'ri
Why is it some hatchlings just seem to be more furry than others? That's not be a question that is easily answered, but Monselth is a fuzzy, furry little algae green colored hatchling and she has the most soulful eyes. Sure, some say that dragon eyes are all the same but they’re not and those that live with them know this. Yes, they all express their emotions in the varying tints and myriad of colors, but some dragons just seem to have more expressiveness in their eyes and Monselth is one of those. She’s a sweet soulful dragon and will wear her emotions in her eyes more readily than others.
Based on Coral Egg, Hawaiian Monk Seal Draggie
Twisted Eye Egg
Grays, whites, and blacks are all mingled together behind that beautiful blue. Perhaps some sort of creature is trying to emerge there. Could that be an eye with the tiniest bit of light brown halfway down the curve of the shell? Up top, is that a cat-like ear? There is no telling. Candidates will have fun trying to make some odd kind of sense out of this egg, that’s for sure.
Green Igunath - Ceinlys
This beautiful hatchling is, well, not quite so beautiful. For some reason the markings on this green’s face make her look like she’s angry all the time. It’s not red flashing eyes that give her this angry mask, her eyes are the true source of realizing her emotions. It’s the delicate lines and markings all over her face that give her that perpetual scowl and she’ll never be able to lose those lines. As she grows up her scowl will grow with her.
Based on Driftwood Egg, Iguana Draggie
A Light Glows From Within
A closer look reveals the truth ... it's really just the surrounding sands reflecting off an *extremely* shiny surface. The egg appears oddly faceted, which causes the reflecting light from both the sands and the sun to seemingly glow from within the egg itself. One could muse on how it would reflect differing colors, requesting Foreth to place it beside an egg of more interesting colors. Like the Finger Painted egg! Wouldn’t that be interesting to see? One could also muse that if the egg is so reflective, could the dragon within be also?
Green Delphith - Syala
About average size for a green, maybe just a wee bit smaller, Delphith is essentially two-toned. A dark mossy green along her back and sides, her belly (as well as her throat and the bottom of her tail) are of a much paler hue. There are also two vaguely triangular markings of the lighter color, one on each side about midway down her body. The fork of her tail is unusually wide and flattened, giving her a somewhat finned look.
Based on Fresnel Lens Egg, Dolphin Draggie
It’s Just a Little Cut Egg
This egg will be found on its side a lot though, hiding the bloodiness and one can’t help but presume that not even Foreth can stand the sight of the bloody shell. It really wouldn’t be so bad if that brown matting furry stuff weren’t there. It won’t be surprising at all if a Candidate or two gets it in their head that it’s an egg that needs patching up, not that they’d dare. But a nice bandage right over that part of the egg would really add character and make it look less creepy by far.
Green Doncanath - L'ayl
Sinuous, slinky, serpentine, Doncanath is all these and will always be very saurian. She’s a gorgeous deep green with darker oval markings all the way from the tip of her muzzle to the tip of her beautiful tail. She’ll come out of her shell and her every movement is slow and calculated. She’ll never move fast on the ground but get her in the water or in the air and she’ll reach speeds that will amaze her rider and Wingleader alike. One of the reasons she’ll surprise people is because of her size. She’s extremely long and thin, and with her length it’s easy to assume she won’t be able to make quick turns. Her thinness will make her maneuverability remarkable though and her length won’t matter.
Based on Grass Skirt Egg, Anaconda draggie
It’s top is the colors of swirling yellow and white. They’re fluffy appearing as if you could lay on them and they would feel soft and airy. If they don’t make you sneeze. But how could it be fluffy? It surely must be a trick of the light. Or is it? If only someone could get close enough to touch it (good luck with Foreth watching) they would find the egg hard and smooth and not oh so fluffy in the least.
The bottom is a different thing altogether. It’s brown and it looks hard, hard enough that someone might wonder just how is the poor Hatchling inside supposed to break out of it’s protecting egg. However, there is also a sense that if it can be broken, it could be something useful, like a shard in a necklace for the new dragon’s Lifemate. Or maybe, rebelliously, as a slide down the Island’s beach into the water when no one is looking.
Again, this is an illusion, the bottom portion of the egg is no harder to crack than on the top and the dragon could choose to plop itself out of either side.
Brown Siwindeth - G'ralt
Siwindeth (si- wine- deth) is a rather distinct looking patchwork colored brown. Rather than being uniform, or almost uniform, all over, he’s made up of rather uniform sized patches all over his body. They very in color from a real light tan to a really dark, almost black, with a couple of different shades in between. He even has the patches, around his eyes with tan patches surrounding his eyes and a dark brown patch between the two. His head knobs are rather large for his size almost giving him a comical look. He’s rather thin, long, and streamlined which will give him a speed advantage in the air, but it’ll cost him points in stamina. Over all it’s hard to tell whether he’s an attractive or funny looking dragon. It may be a case of a dragon that only his rider could love.
Based on Koa Tree Egg,Sidewinder Snake Draggie
Finger Painted Egg
Such pretty colors and so many of them too … pretty blues, reds, oranges, and several shades of green. A child might point and say there’s the lake right here and over there is the grassy meadows with those pretty, pretty flowers we picked. Look, over there is the sunset we saw and there is the fishy, and the pretty kitty kat and…and…
The list will go on and the child might see all those things. Perhaps an adult with a very good imagination might see it too, but those things aren’t really there at all. This is just another wonderful and very colorful egg that Foreth clutched.
Blue Batyth - Kasanra
This dragon is blue, really, he is. The blue of his hide is an amazing stormy cloud, bluish-gray. So while you might want to say there goes a gray dragon, he’s really a blue-gray and he’ll make sure you know it. Don’t you dare call him gray, or dull blue, he’ll just have to snub you by turning his lighter blue headknobs in your direction and make you look at them right up close.
Based on Lei Egg, Hawaiian Hoary Bat Draggie
Emerald Glow Egg
Green Gazaleth - Sasran
From a green egg you get a green dragon, not always the case, but certainly true in this case. Gazaleth is light green on body and an even lighter color head and its neck is a much darker green than the rest of its body, with the exception of a conspicuous light spot in the middle of its neck. Its head knobs are bigger than normal, but not out of proportion. In fact this is a well-proportioned dragon over all. It is lean and averaged sized. Gazaleth will never be huge, but she’ll never be small either. Her wings are in proportion as well. She’ll be able to fly as much of a Fall as any other similarly proportioned dragon. She’s a big more agile in the air as her tail is just a little big longer than it needed to be allowing her to make quicker turns and movements in the air.
Based on Lime Egg, Gazelle Draggie
Layer of Leaves Egg
In a few places there are red spots that are as striking in color as the leaves themselves are. Perhaps the reds are supposed to be some sort of flower, but they look a bit too big and unorganized to be a flower, isn’t it? Is something hideous hiding within the plants, lurking near to wreak havoc on Foreth’s clutch? Which brave candidate will try to find out?
Green Droflyeth - Lidikani
Droflyeth starts out a dark hunter green on her underbelly and gradually grows darker until you reach the top where she is a really light green. The circles of dark green around her eyes interrupt this pattern and makes her look a little like the women who put on too much makeup. Her back is dotted with tiny little dots of green that varies in lightness depending on its back ground. Her tail is all dark green and it has a dab of really light green on the base as if the painter got annoyed at the uniformity of the color. After all, the rest is varying shades, the tail shouldn’t be all one shade!
Based on Ohia lehua tree egg, Hawiian Dragonflies draggie
Metalsmith’s Nightmare Egg
This egg almost seems to be writhing with the molten heat of melting metals with one big catch. These metals are blue, red, pink, and black. What sort of creation is being made here? What monstrosity is trying to be brought to life in this would be piece of art? It will make the purist metalcrafters cringe and put ideas into the more harper creative minds.
For the Candidates, this egg is simply a delight to look at because it means one more chance to Impress. The outside of the shell doesn’t matter, it’s the inside that counts.
Green Vinsnath - Elenerin (Ellie)
Tiny describes this green perfectly. She’s petite and she will never grow to be more than twenty feet at the very most. Vinsnath is a very pretty medium sea green, her body is one long solid color and in a Weyr full of dragons sporting many varying shades on a single hide she’s striking to look at and to watch her move. She has a dainty wobbly walk as a hatchling and like all dragons she’ll keep the wobble to some degree but she’s just fun to look at because she’s so petite.
Based on Orchids Egg, Vine Snake Draggie
Tainted Bronze Egg
The designs on this egg shell are amazing if you look close enough. There on the bottom right, is that a person with wings?! Who ever heard of such a thing and yet there it seems to be. How strange to see something so ridiculous. If a person was meant to fly alone surely they’d have wings, but they weren’t meant to fly without a dragon. Their bodies, even if someone dared try to attach wings to it, were not meant to fly.
And what are those white floaty things? What could they possibly be? Are they clouds for those silly flying people to slip through? Or perhaps it’s fog from the heated sands the eggs are resting on. No matter what’s decided, this egg is one of the more lovely ones to dream over.
Bronze Chimanzeth - E'an (Edan)
Thickset and robust right from the egg, Chimanzeth isn’t built completely solid. For his size you’d think he’d weigh more but he’s one of those surprisingly lightweight yet strong body dragons. This bronze's limbs will be long, his forepaws and hind feet narrow and long as well. He’s not too out of proportion but his forearms do look to be longer than they should and his legs a bit on the short size for all that they’re very muscular.
Based on Pineapple Egg, Chimpanzee Draggie
It’s Melting Egg
To those Candidates that have never seen snow, it’s a treat to hear others from the North point to this egg and exclaim, ‘Snow!’ Many will long to touch it just to see if it’s cold but the illusion will have to hold them over because this egg is hot to the touch just like all the other eggs in the clutch.
Of course some people will swear it’s still melting, that there was more there the day before. It won’t be true because right up until hatching day that snow will be there. It doesn’t help though when Foreth moves the eggs about and displays more or less of the white snowy design.
Blue Madilith - Alasel
This pretty little slate blue dragon has the most remarkable, distinctive hide design that makes him stand right out in a crowd. The coloring isn’t so unique, but the ‘armor-like’ appearance of the hide is simply amazing. The way the darker shadows of blue hide have formed make it appear as if Madilith has small, closely set plates of armor all over his head, back and straight on down to his tail. The same chain mail-like pattern extends to his legs and arms only in smaller pebble plates that are still remarkable. He looks as if a guard dropped his metal breast plate onto him and somehow it grew into his hide forming this marvelous blue dragon.

Ahh, That Can Be Fixed Egg
Oh no, what happened?? There's a huge, gaping hole in it! How could this be?? A closer look, however, shows that it's not really a hole, but just a ragged-edged black spot. A large sigh of relief is heard. However, you've got to wonder why it's there. Why hasn’t anyone fixed it? Just a few pieces of wood and it would be good to go, after all. Oh, wait... that's right, it's not *really* a hole. Just keep telling yourself that.
Blue Minnoth - B're (Cairbre)
A light blue overall, Minnoth's body is bisected on either side by a wide, dark stripe that starts at the base of his neck in the back, then runs over his shoulders, across his flanks, and down just in front of his rear legs, and finally joins back together at his lower belly. His wings are an even paler shade of blue, so light that the dark veins running near the surface of his hide are clearly visible. Generally of average size for a blue, Minnoth's spinal ridges are rather larger than would be expected, more like those of a medium-sized brown than a blue. The size of his ridges, combined with his small mouth and the stripe 'glueing' his upper and lower bodies together, almost make Minnoth look like he was put together from spare parts leftover from other dragons.
Based on Shipwreck Egg / Humuhumunukunukuapua'a draggie
The Sunrise Egg,
All you’d be able see is a mass of blue dotted with random swirls of color except for a strip of lighter, redder colors that extends all the way around. It would be nothing but a blur and perhaps it would appear less beautiful than it actually is. That would be a shame because this is a truly beautiful egg.
Blue Taprith - A'jay (Arn)
Out of the Sunrise Egg comes the blue Taprith. Taprith is a medium colored blue with a darker blue on the top of his neck that runs in jagged lines. It is uncannily reminiscent of a mane. He is other wise uniformly medium blue with the exception of his head which is a color between his body and his mane, er…neck.
Based on Sunrise Egg, Brazilian Tapir Draggie
Forger’s Glow Egg
This egg is very smooth, warm and definitely inviting. Running your hands over this egg will be a warming experience as it is with all of them, but this one more so than others. There’s something about its color that just emanates a cozy, relaxing atmosphere. Though if you’re seeing that forger’s glow you just might want to stand back a bit from the heat.
Green Comoroth - Tarana
The green is fuzzy, seriously. Her hide is so dense it feels fuzzy. The dark green of her hide is simply beautiful in all its fuzziness. She's so dark on her body she’s just above that fine line that would drag her down into almost black. Of course there isn’t a speck of black on her anywhere, and the dark green lightens considerably as it moves along her body to her wings. When she unfurls those gorgeous, powerful wings with their forest green color you’ll no longer think about how dark her body is at all. She has wings that will capture the attention immediately for their obvious strength and beauty.
Based on Sunset Egg, Comoro Black Flying Fox Draggie
Maybe there’s a clue as to the color of the dragon inside. Look! There’s a green looking blob. Wait! There are a couple of blue patches together. Oooo! Oooo! A brown patch amongst those red ones. Staring at the egg for any length of time is likely to give a person a headache or to make them dizzy. But there’s still that calming, warm feeling that radiates from the egg with promises to comfort you and take care of you even if you do feel dizzy or have a headache from it.
Green Flyth - N'hos
Flyth starts out very light pale yellow-green on her belly and under her neck and grows darker the closer you get to her back where she is a hunter green. Her head is the same color as his back but criss-crossed with light green strips. Her tail is light on the bottom and blends into a forest green. Flyth is a thin and long dragon with a long tale.
Based on Tivaivai Egg, arboreal lizard draggie
Rhyme or Reason Egg
The browns and tans come in various shades. Anywhere from a very light, almost white tan, to a more yellow tan, to a reddish brown, to a dark brown and various shades in between. The colors are such that the darker browns seem to be built on top of each other with strips of lighter colors in between adding to the effect that there might possibly be a rhyme or reason to the composition of the egg. Candidates who enjoy puzzles will find themselves drawn to this egg, spending hours at a time figuring it out … if Foreth didn’t chase them away first.
Brown Capybrath - M'linct
Capybrath is the opposite of his brother Siwindeth in many ways. He’s short and pudgy and oh so not streamlined. Oh, he’s not the shortest in the bunch, nor the pudgiest, but he certainly isn’t thin like his brother. He doesn’t ride as low to the ground as his sister Loriseth so he doesn’t have to watch his hind end too much. His wings are nice and proportional to his body. They’ll be an asset, however, in the air where he’ll be a little lighter.
Based on Totem Pole Egg, Capybara Draggie
Green Awalth - Khloe
Awalth is a small green, very small, the smallest dragon of the Clutch actually. She will always be small, but certainly not the smallest of the Weyr. She’s petite as well, almost to the point of being fragile looking. She’s a beautiful dragon, both in coloring and in body shape, with the exception of her rather short tail. She is a dark green with spots of lighter color on her back and streaks down her chest and wings. Rather than detracting from her looks they add to them. She has little patches of little yellow-green above her eyes that look like eyebrows.
Based on Triple Coconut Tree Egg, Elf Owl Draggie
The egg appears to be moving. If you look at it long enough the colors seem to shift around, adding to the idea that it is lava. The reds and yellows flow into each other and if you have a good imagination you can almost hear the volcano erupting in the background. There are even flecks of color that make it appear as if the yellows are flying through the air on their way back to the ground. On one side it is black as if to show the egg before it that has already been destroyed by the lava. It doesn’t look any more inviting than the rest of the egg. One can only hope that the dragon that comes out of the egg is more pleasant than the egg itself.
Bronze Yototh - H'ratio
Yototh (Yoh-toth) is a reddish-bronze on top which becomes more yellow-bronze as you move down his body to under his belly. His tail is the darkest part of his body that is more of a brownish-bronze than a reddish-bronze. His neck is redder-bronze than his back and his head is a medium bronze color. There is a stripe that is rather dark that runs straight down the middle of his spine.
Based on Volcano Egg, Coyote Draggie
Magic Waters Egg
Blue Spinth - Cilonae
Spinth is an oddly narrow dragon with long spindly legs, even more so than his Clutchmates. As he grows he could be referred to as a fish because when you look at him straight on there is the illusion that all but his head and neck disappear. Of course this isn’t true, and he really isn’t that skinny, but it just shows you that he is skinnier than average. His legs are thin enough that it’s sometimes considered odd that they can support him, but they’re all muscle and have no trouble carrying his weight.
