Character type: Harper
Appearance: Berrano is about 5'9" tall and of medium build. He has caramel blond hair with eyes a shade darker. He put on weight after he came to apprentice at the Harper Hall, making up for slim pickings during the Famine, but this is melting away as he's going through a growth spurt. He wears whatever is provided from Harper Hall stores, not wanting to spend money on anything that could be taken away from him, but chooses clothes in a light blue if possible.
Personality: Berrano has never fully recovered from his experiences during the Famine. The contrast between his happy childhood and the scenes he witnessed during the Famine left him feeling that anything he loved could be taken from him at any time. He goes to Gathers but rarely buys anything of any value. Why bother when you can't be sure of keeping it? His only valued possession is his lap-harp, and he lives in dread of somebody stealing or breaking it.
History: Berrano was born to cotholder parents at Forest Edge Hold, 3 turns before the Eighth Pass began. He had a happy childhood, with no expectation of being anything but a cotholder until the Year of the Famine. The family's lands provided amply for their needs, and he enjoyed his lessons with one of the main Hold's itinerant harpers. But when the rains failed, he saw his family's crops wither, their cow go dry, their neighbours dying off. Somewhere inside he realised that there was no certainty of being able to grow your own food on a cot-hold, with enough left over to buy other essentials and tithe to the Weyr. With everyone in the same situation, his family couldn't even get enough food by foraging in the nearby forest or fishing in the river as it also began to dry up.
Information about Berrano's pets
Pet Name: Delvan
Pet Type: Flit
Appearance: Delvan is a small harper-blue flit, 9 turns old, the last in an abandoned green clutch. He is tiny but perfectly formed, with bright eyes that watch Berrano's every move.
Personality: Delvan is strongly empathic for a blue flit. He senses Berrano's need for a friend who will never leave him, and in fact he only leaves him to go fishing with the other flits around Kele Hold.
