J'yanCharacter type: Weyrling Appearance: J'yan is good-looking. He's tall, well-built and muscular, with a fully-matured body that's in good physical shape; his skin is a rich golden shade and his eyes deep chocolate-brown with eyelashes as long and thick as a camel's. His most major imperfection is his large feet, but his face is well-proportioned and the restless energy about him and his thickish beard give him an air of dangerousness, a certain wild-felinish grace. His black, glossy hair is dead-straight and very thick, and, freshly cut, falls neatly around his face and becomes strangely fluffy when it dries out after being wet. He smells...warm. The smell of a stable full of sweating, hot runner, of a fireplace crackling and spitting, of woodsmoke and something subtly pheromonal and spiced, something heady, that definitely seems to attract girls. He's physically fit, and very, very quick on his feet. Personality: J'yan is proud, and a little touchy at times: fiercely protective of his dignity and his loved ones, making all the effort he can to keep up a tough appearance, and very confident with girls. He hates rankers; though he'll take orders from someone he respects, he'll do so grudgingly, and someone he dislikes casually telling him to do something will make him very angry. He makes friends reasonably easily, and is staunchly loyal when he does, and makes girlfriends even more easily, though he tends to fall out wth them quickly, both because of his somewhat prickly nature and because their relationships with him tend more to be based on immediate physical attraction - it's those pheromones again - rather than any knowledge of his somewhat mysterious personality. He's definitely more of an outdoors person than an indoors person, to the point of slight claustrophobia, and loves any sort of outdoor activity, especially dangerous ones. He has mood swings at times, and his emotions tend to be written on a large, large scale, though he's icy calm in a crisis. And, no, he's not a big softy underneath it all: you take him as you find him, and his loyalty and sense of honour are certainly good points, combined with a genuine love of dragons (not most animals, though, he tolerates them rather than becoming attached to them). Since Impressing Reggith he's found he's become a bit more responsible, or at least gentler, simply because you have to be. He loves his dragon very much indeed, and is extremely touchy about any insult to Reggith's behaviour (of course he pounces. He's training himself for eating. And he does it very well, thank you very much, so just shut up about my bronze) even though at the same time he does attempt to make sure he behaves, even when this conflicts with his own somewhat rebellious nature. These two are in for a turbulent Weyrlinghood, even though they'll have fun all the way. History: Yan was born to a Trader and a drudge at High Reaches Hold: his father, whose name he never found out, was horrified when he found out after seducing his mother that she was mentally retarded and left her straight away, not realising he had made her pregnant, something that angered Yan ever since: he loves his mother a lot, and thinks he was utterly shallow-minded and vindictive to leave her just because of that. Still, because of his parentage, many people simply assumed he had the same problem himself and treated him as simple, especially the other Holdbrats. Yan soon found himself getting into fights just to prove he was worthy of respect and becoming more and more angry with the contemptuous way he and his mother were treated. He also threw himself into his Harper lessons to prove he was intelligent. One day, his temper snapped and he threw a glass of red wine all over a visiting Holder after he had joked over Yan's mother's condition when she served him and couldn't remember the word for wine. After being punished severely, much more so than he had ever been for the fighting, Yan realised things really had to change: he was fed up of losing his temper and the punishments that followed. Deciding that High Reaches was never going to be a good home to them, and that, if he was ever Searched, he wanted to go to a Weyr that wasn't infamous for its ranking, he set off for Arolos Hold, a long and arduous journey made mostly by hitching on a Trader's caravan, something he found particularly ironic, with his mother Senna, and once there found himself Searched after a Turn. Information about J'yan's dragon Dragon Name: Reggith Colour: Bronze Age: 1 month Wing (Weyrling Group): None Appearance: On the smallish side of medium, for a bronze, Reggith is a coppery-bronze dragon, with his wingtips discoloring to olive. His hide fades in color rather abruptly on his belly, muzzle, and around his eyes. Short, dark patches, almost stripes, line up on his limbs, back, and down his tail, as well as the side of his head, with sreaking back from his pale muzzle. When he's at rest - usually meaning 'asleep' - Reggith's tail tends to curl up into a tight coil reminiscent of his shell. His paws are rather larger than normal for a dragon of his size, and in fact would fit better on a gold than any bronze, but Reggith simply thinks that they're the perfect size for bouncing. Personality: Yes, that's right. Bouncing. Reggith doesn't walk so much as bound. His lifemate had best set boundaries early, or he's likely to end up getting crushed by a half-grown dragon at some point, a task made more difficult by the fact that trying to keep Reggith from bouncing is somewhat analogous to trying to keep another dragon from chasing greens - it's theoretically Weyr of Origin: Arolos Abilites and weaknesses: Excellent at betweening, but overexcitable, to say the least, and likes pouncing on people, and playing around. A few rather bruise-filled 'training' sessions with J'yan has resulted in him being able to pounce people and dragons with his paws on the gorund around them rather than on them, sparing general injuries. And he loves a good game of tag.
