Arolos Wherry-EagleEntered by: dragonsama Date: 2009-02-21 Relevant to: Arolos Summary: Arolos Wherry-eagle: An eagle like bird that is about the size of a turkey vulture or a normal wherry. The principle difference is that it is one of the Pern Avians that evolved actual feathers. It has white feathers on it's head and neck and blue feathers of different shades and sheens on the rest of it's body. They are opportunistic eaters, being unusual in that they will hunt effectively with their fearsome hind leg talons, and harvest vegetation or fruit with fore-legs. Though they will take carrion if they find it they are not exclusively carron eaters. People assume this because they often follow wherries to carrion sites with a view to snagging one of them for lunch. This only happens when there is a nest group flying together before they disperse as they will hunt in a por echo of firelizard style. They are used for meat and their feathers are used for decoration - They can be wing clipped and domesticated as they spend a reasonable amount of time on the ground foraging. Their meat is very rich and dense and sought after due to the fact the do not have a bitter taste from being a carrion eater.
