The (Approximate) Science of Between - a members view

Summary: It is not known to the Pernese, whether dragon, rider or otherwise, just exactly how the dragon does what it does, or what is happening when the dragon makes the transfer. This article is an attempt to explain draconic teleportation in terms of quantum physics. As the author is not a scientist, but merely a voracious autodidact, there may be some logical or informational flaws in this document. However, it is accurate enough for our purposes and provides a useful way to conceptualize precisely why /between/ works how it does and to answer some frequent questions and ponderings about /between/, such as why timing it is so hard on the rider in particular, and what happens to physical matter (such as suiciding dragons, interred corpses, and dragon/fire-lizard waste) when left in a "there" that supposedly isn't a "there" at all.
Article: Presumably, a dragon can teleport -- known as going /between/ to the Pernese -- from birth, but they are not trained to do so until they are fully able to fly and have much practice doing so. They are extremely careful about this, as going between is perhaps the most dangerous part of a dragonrider's duty, even considering Thread, and the loss of weyrlings to /between/ accidents is a shameful waste of Weyr resources.
