CANDIDATE LESSON - Firestone BreakingEntered by: ArolosBoD Date: 2005-01-14 Relevant to: Arolos Summary: Tiella looked over the groups of Candidates. "This is a very necessary task, albeit slight hard work, and will test your muscles. When you are on Firestone cracking duty as you are for this session, you will be expected to attend one of the firestone pits. In there you will find the very large rocks which need cracking. The hammers and picks are next to the Pit in the stores. You break up as much stone as you can in that hour, at least one sack full of un-sized lumps and put the sack in the sort for the Weyrlings to grade and sort. No bagged fragment should be bigger than an adults fist - and make sure that you are wearing gloves when you handle the stuff. If the firestone is a bit damp, or if your hands get a bit wet then it can burn with a mild acid feeling. It's heavy going...which is why it is an hours session only for each chore group, but you have to consider the amount of firestone that is constantly needed to supply the Wings. If nothing else it will teach you not to squander firestone when you are riders!" She smiled at them all, "Now...take a hammer that suits your weight, and make sure you are wearing gloves and _be careful_. Don't swing wildly or get carried away...and remember to wash before you come in!"
