MONTH 15-16 LESSON - Between SkippingEntered by: ArolosBoD Date: 2005-01-14 Relevant to: Arolos Summary: "This..." B'lin said as the group prepared to go aloft "Is a VITAL part of Fall flying. You are going to learn to skip *between* in a shallow jump. You know how to *between* well enough but this a different technique. A normal jump takes roughly three slow heartbeats. Now imagine that in Fall. You jump and in the time you are between a tangle of Thread has dropped to where you come out, and it was nowhere in sight when you jumped. And if you've been scored...well maybe you aren't checking above and below in your hurry. So... a shallow dive between is within your line of sight. It will take only one heart beat. You've seen the flits do it even when they are playing tag. They dart in and out. This can be useful because usually if a clump is coming down too fast and you are low on flame or the wrong angle you can hop skip between swiftly because the visualization is THERE in front of you...or to the side of you. Be very aware anything near you because sometime the entire wing will have to skip jump and leave the Thread in that band for a lower altitude wing. So today we are going to practice that. We will demonstrate, and then you will practice alone, and as a formation- skip in your traids and eventually as whole wings until it is second nature to do it in an emergency. Now lets get aloft." He gave the hand signal and up they went.
