MONTH 9 LESSON - Differentiated FlyingEntered by: ArolosBoD Date: 2005-01-24 Relevant to: Arolos Summary: "You will have noticed that there is a distinct difference in your dragons capability for flight." B'lin began this lesson. "And if there is one thing that is important it is to play to your strengths. There will be some overlap in capabilities, but what we are interested in now is discovering what your dragon has a particular affinity with. For the Greens this could be lightning turns, or sprint interception. For the blues it may be hovering, or swoops, brown might discover theirs to be the focus of a group and having a strong pacing flight, or altitude gain...likewise with the bronzes." He looked around at them all "When we go aloft I want you in small arrowhead formation with a group and I want you to perform a sequence of maneuvers on my command and pay careful note to how happy you felt about each one. You will climb altitude to Leading edge level as quickly as possible. You will hover there as stationary as possible until my mark. You will stoop and sharp RIGHT turn, follow by a sharp left, followed by a right, then you will climb again at a steady uniform pace, in perfect formation and level out again continuing at a steady pace until I call an emergency stop. At that point we will return to the Weyrbowl and you will report on what maneuvers you and your life mate enjoyed and what you found more difficult. Trust me, you will not be able to do ALL of these maneuvers with the same sort of ease due to the build of your dragon, nor should you expect to, so do not push it too hard. Now mount up and on my mark... Go!"
